Cactus Garden in Barcelona

A hidden gem in Barcelona that you definitely shouldn’t miss is the cactus garden at the Jardins de Mossèn Costa i Llobera at Montjuïc. This cactus garden is home to more than 800 different species of cacti, making it one of the most important cactus gardens in Europe. And the best part is that admission is completely free!

Walking among the cacti

Barcelona’s cactus garden is located on one of the slopes of Montjuïc, overlooking the sea. It is easily accessible by the cable car Telefèric del Port or by walking via the Carretera de Miramar.

Once you arrive at the cactus garden, actually called Jardins de Mossèn Costa i Llobera, you can admire various cacti and, if the path is open, even walk among them!

The gardens of Jardins de Mossèn Costa i Llobera were opened in 1970 and were designed by the architect Joaquím Maria Casamor and the plant expert Joan Pañella.

The garden offers a unique collection of cacti and succulents from around the world, covering an area of 3.16 hectares.

In addition, the views over the sea, the port, and the industrial area of Zona Franca that you find here are also amazing.

The cactus garden, despite its beauty, is still a relatively unknown place. It’s a great place to stroll through and take photos. And although there are no playgrounds nearby or anything like that, it’s also a nice place to visit with children.

Have you ever been to the cactus garden in Barcelona, and what did you think of it? I’d love to hear in the comments!
