Tips for Booking a Hotel for a City Trip in Barcelona

Finding the perfect hotel in the bustling city of Barcelona can be a challenge. With an abundance of hotels and accommodations in the city, it can be difficult to make the right choice. If the above selection of my favorite hotels in Barcelona doesn’t quite meet your expectations, here are some valuable tips to help you choose the ideal hotel in Barcelona.

1. Look for Hotels with a Central Location and Close to Public Transport

What is a nice neighborhood in Barcelona to stay in?‘ is the first question many visitors have when looking for a hotel in Barcelona. In my opinion, there are three areas in Barcelona that are very suitable for a city trip: the center of Barcelona, l’Eixample, and the beach area.

The reason for this is their central location relative to Barcelona’s important attractions. These areas in Barcelona are also the most interesting starting points for tourists to explore the city.

Barcelona is also a city that can be very well explored using public transport. The system is designed so that you can get anywhere with the metro or bus. However, it is handy to choose a hotel with good transport connections to Barcelona’s main attractions. It would be a shame to spend an hour twice a day in the metro to get to the Sagrada Família, Park Güell, or Camp Nou.

Good locations for hotels with a central location and good transport connections are Plaça de Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia, and Sagrada Família.

2. Book Your Hotel in Advance

Book your hotel in advance to ensure a room upon arrival. Due to the many fairs and events held in the city, available hotel rooms can sometimes be scarce.

Booking early is often rewarded with cheaper rates. Hotel prices in Barcelona range from €40 to €120 per room per night (double room). Even cheaper are double rooms in a pensión or hostal (simple hotel).

My tip: Want to stay in Barcelona as cheaply as possible? Avoid the high season, take advantage of last-minute offers, or book well in advance to secure your hotel room at a favorable rate.

3. Check the Amenities

If you’re going to Barcelona for a city trip, you’ll probably want to relax and enjoy your stay after a lot of sightseeing. Hotels with extra amenities like pools, spas, restaurants, and rooftop bars are ideal for this.

Make a list of amenities that are important to you, such as free Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, fitness facilities, a restaurant, or a bar on-site. Check the hotel pages to see what amenities are offered.

If you are coming by car, it is convenient if your hotel has a parking garage for customers.

A breakfast buffet is nice, but not always necessary: in Barcelona, you will find many bakeries and cafes that open early in the morning and serve a good breakfast for much less money.

If you prefer to sleep in a quiet room, ask for rooms on the backside of the hotel or choose a hotel with soundproof rooms, considering the busy traffic.

4. Read Reviews and Testimonials

Before booking, it’s a good idea to read reviews from previous guests on websites like TripAdvisor or Booking.com. This gives you a good idea of the experiences of other travelers and the overall quality of the hotel.

If you still have specific questions (or requests), do not hesitate to contact the hotel. The staff can often provide you with valuable information.

5. Choose a Trusted Hotel Brand

When in doubt, opt for a hotel with a strong and reputable brand. Well-known hotel chains like NH Hotels, Catalonia Hotels, H10 Hotels, and others have several locations throughout Barcelona, making it easy to find a room that suits your needs. These trusted brands are a guarantee of a comfortable and secure stay in the city.
