Initially, this sailing race took place in the United States, hence the name, but since 2003 a competition has been held to determine which city will host the America’s Cup. In 2024, this honor goes to Barcelona. The city was chosen for its excellent port facilities and ideal sailing conditions.

When is the America’s Cup in Barcelona?

The official opening ceremony of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup will take place in Barcelona on August 22, 2024. This will be followed by the final Preliminary Regatta and the Louis Vuitton Cup (the Challenger Selection Series), leading to the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match, which begins on October 12, 2024.

In 2023, two Preliminary Regattas were held in Vilanova i la Geltrú and Jeddah, and in August 2024, a third will take place in Barcelona. Since June 2023, the teams have established their bases and have been training in Barcelona.

During this time, the city has been preparing and transforming to host the America’s Cup in the summer of 2024. Especially Port Vell, the old port, and the Olympic Port have been modernized to host the America’s Cup 2024.

What to do during the America’s Cup in Barcelona?

Besides the sailing races taking place between August and October, there are plenty of activities to enjoy in Barcelona around this event. Here is a glimpse of the main events and activities you can participate in.

1. Golondrinas Boat Tours

A new route has been launched with the Golondrinas boat tours. Passengers will receive information about the history of the America’s Cup and the six participating teams. This offers a unique opportunity to experience the city and the event from the water.

During the sailing race, five fan zones will be installed, four of them on the beaches of Barcelona. The fifth fan zone is located in the America’s Cup Village, opposite the camps of INEOS Britannia and Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Giant screens will be set up in the fan zones so visitors can follow the races and other events.
