The 5 Trendiest Neighborhoods in Barcelona

Are you planning a trip to Barcelona soon and looking for the coolest neighborhoods in the city for a good dose of inspiration? Then the list below of the trendiest neighborhoods is definitely for you.

As a born and raised Barcelonesa, I know the city like the back of my hand and know exactly where to find the hippest addresses in Barcelona. So, take note of these tips to make your city trip to Barcelona even more enjoyable!

1. El Born

Located in the heart of the old town, El Born is known for its narrow winding streets, historic buildings, and cozy atmosphere. It is home to many original boutiques, art galleries, and unique dining spots. Due to its wide range of tastefully decorated shops and restaurants, along with its artistic atmosphere, El Born is often considered the trendiest neighborhood in Barcelona.

In El Born, you’re in the right place if you’re looking for lively squares with cozy restaurants and terraces, small-scale shops and boutiques of local brands, and a good dose of artistic art, history, and culture.

Recommended places include Carrer de Montcada, where numerous museums and art galleries can be found, including the Picasso Museum, the lively Passeig del Born, and Carrer del Rec, where many charming shops and cafes are located.

If you love contemporary art, don’t miss the Moco Museum, also located in El Born.

My tip: In El Born, you’ll find the shop La Femme Floral, which is one of the most photogenic flower shops in the city. Also, don’t miss the secret bar Paradiso, awarded as the best cocktail bar in the world. Are you looking for a quick bite amidst all the sights in El Born? Also, don’t skip Funky Bakkers bakery, considered one of the hippest bakeries in the city.

2. Sant Antoni

On the left side of the Eixample, bordering the old city, lies the neighborhood of Sant Antoni. This area is known for its diversity and creativity, hosting some of the best dining spots in the city.

Sant Antoni has undergone a true transformation in recent years and now offers modern boutiques, cozy cafes, and trendy restaurants, especially those around Carrer del Parlament. This street is renowned as the ultimate foodie street in Barcelona.

The Sant Antoni Market is the main attraction of the neighborhood and a popular spot among locals who come here for their groceries.

My tip: Visit the former Moritz beer factory on Ronda de Sant Antoni, now transformed into a hip bar. Also, stop by the trendy coffee shops on Carrer del Parlament and finally, indulge in an unparalleled culinary experience at the Teatro Kitchen & Bar restaurant.

3. El Poblenou

Formerly an industrial area, El Poblenou has evolved into one of the trendiest places in the city. Amidst 19th-century factories, characteristic workers’ homes, brand-new skyscrapers, and vacant lots, some of the biggest tech companies have established themselves, bringing the neighborhood to life.

The hip and happening atmosphere of El Poblenou is reflected in the type of businesses that settle here. Think of the fantastic design hotel, The Hoxton, the creative studios of Palo Alto and Espai Joliu, the Design Museum of Barcelona, or the contemporary art museum Can Framis.

Some highlights in this neighborhood include the brand-new public library, Biblioteca Gabriel García Márquez, the beautiful Parc Central del Poblenou, and the ultra-modern flea market, Encants Vells.

Don’t forget to climb to the top of the Torre Glòries viewpoint for an amazing view of the city that not many people know about, and visit one of the many cafes and restaurants the neighborhood boasts; often, they are very trendy places.

My tip: Don’t miss the monthly lifestyle market that takes place on the old factory grounds of Palo Alto. A true paradise for hipsters who love good food and music!

4. Gràcia

Gràcia, once a village in itself, possesses a unique character and is renowned for its charming squares, such as Plaça del Sol and Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. The neighborhood is scattered with creative boutiques, local artisanal shops, and cozy cafes. Additionally, Gràcia is home to numerous cultural and artistic organizations, ensuring there is always something happening. In my opinion, this district is one of the most delightful places to wander through.

One of the streets you definitely shouldn’t miss if you’re seeking a good dose of inspiration is Carrer d’Astúries, filled with charming boutiques and cafes. Don’t overlook Olokuti’s store for beautiful gifts.

In Gràcia, you can also enjoy excellent dining. The neighborhood boasts many great eateries, such as the sushi restaurant Kibuka, tapas bar Fino Bar and Lluritu, and the French bakery Boulangerie Mayer. Don’t miss the cake shop La Besnéta and head to Syra Coffee for a delightful cup of coffee.

My tip: Gràcia truly comes alive during festivals like the famous Festa Major de Gràcia.

5. El Raval

The multicultural neighborhood of El Raval is one of the rawest and most creative districts in Barcelona. It’s a destination that you, as a curious traveler in search of trendy places, should definitely not miss. In El Raval, you’ll be surprised by an amazing array of art and culture, and the shops and dining options are exceptionally unique!

Highlights in this neighborhood include Plaça dels Àngels, where the contemporary museum MACBA and Keith Haring’s large mural are located. Don’t overlook Rambla del Raval, where you can find Botero’s giant cat, and be sure to visit the rooftop bar of the Barceló Raval hotel.

If you love shopping, don’t miss the streets of Carrer del Doctor Dou for design inspiration and Carrer de la Riera Baixa for vintage clothing. A fantastic bookstore where you can also enjoy a cup of coffee is La Central del Raval.

My tip: Immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife of Barcelona at one of the fantastic bars in El Raval, such as the age-old Bar Marsella. A classic that never goes out of style.
